| The ports of Vancouver, Wash., and Portland, Ore, settled with the Columbia River Alliance for Nurturing the Environment on environmental issues. 010/13/03 Capital Press In Todays News The settlement clears that way for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to issue its record of decision so the channel-deepening project can continue, said the Columbia River Channel Coalition in a statement Friday afternoon. The agreement eliminates CRANEs opposition to the Port of Vancouvers efforts to develop maritime and industrial properties. CRANE agreed not to pursue legal challenges to the Port of Vancouvers Columbia Gateway Development. The port agreed not to develop certain parcels of land on the Columbia River that had been in its project. Instead, the port will put some of the land into environmental restoration. The Port of Portland will help fund the restoration with a $750,000 grant to CRANE. The environmental group had appealed state approvals for the Columbia River Channel Improvement Project.
